Popular Ugandan blogger, Peng, has branded musician Peter Miles a failure in the musician industry because of his lack of originality. While acknowledging that the 34-year-old, Entebbe based singer, who has done collaborations with big Jamaican artistes including; Demarco, Elephant man and Levy is talented, the blogger was quick to note that had it not been for his bad habit of copying the Jamaican music style, he would be far.
“This man is so talented but someone asked me a question today, saying what is wrong with Peter Miles? I don’t know why Ugandans take long to listen to his music,” the blogger stated. “Truth is Pete Miles is talented and when I ask you, in which way? You will respond, he is good at Jamaican music. But how many upcoming stars in Uganda have become the in thing today and yet Peter Miles joined the industry before them? Whoever wants to sound Jamaican it’s okay but trust me music Consumers will listen to dancehall music courtesy of real Jamaicans nobody will care about your music. Try to sing Lingala when you Ugandan, the promoter will not give a f*ck about your music but instead he will travel to Congo and do business with real Congolese.”
The blogger then advised artistes to be original in order to make it. He cited examples like Kenzo who have made it internationally because of being original and not copying others. “My sisters and brothers copying Nigerian Accents/Music it’s Okay continue and don’t let anybody stop you but I know when I want to listen to Nigerian music, I will play real Nigerian Music .Peter Miles is a good artiste but he doesn’t know what the people want, he plays what he wants and not what the people want to hear from him. He has been in this industry for so long, but why do you think he has few viewers on YouTube? He became an artiste of collabos.”
Miles who is the C.E.O. Roadblock Entertainment, basically sings in Patois, Luganda, English and Kiswahili. He is known for his songs; One time, Owange, Muwala, Ruckus, Blessings and many others. He has done several music collaborations both in Uganda and across the borders.
