Some people are wired to want more sex, brain study shows

Ever wonder why you can’t get sex off your brain? You’re walking down the street, weren’t even thinking of anything to do with the deed, when someone walking towards you catches your eye. And before you know it, your mind’s gone down the rabbit hole.

Well, let us lift your guilty conscience: turns out, some people’s brains are actually wired to want to have more sex. Researchers at the University of California Los Angeles recruited psychology students to participate in brain recording and found that some people’s brains are more sensitive to sexual cues, which means it takes less to get them aroused and ultimately leads to them seeking out more sexual partners.

The participants got an electroencephalogram (EEG) of their brains and were asked to view 225 standardised pictures of pleasant, neutral or unpleasant things. The pleasant images included sexually stimulating ones and these ranged from PG stuff like people kissing to more explicit pictures of people having sex. They were also asked about their number of sexual partners in the past year.

Some of the participants showed strong reactions on the EEG to nearly all of the intimacy-themed images, regardless of whether they were explicit — and these were the same people who reported having more partners.

While no major conclusions can be drawn regarding whether sex addiction is actually pre-wired in the brain, what can be said is that some people are simply more biologically sensitive to sexual cues, which encourages a higher arousal threshold.
