Back then, a lady narrated that they had begun injecting remains of their relatives with paraffin just to discourage basezi or cannibals from having them for dinner. When the basezi realized that this was being done intentionally, they posted on the village notice board; “This is a final warning, if you don’t put a stop to spoiling our food with paraffin, we shall resort to eating live humans.” The rest is history, this was a real warning, and they only prayed that the basezi could die off slowly because there was no solution in dealing with them.
According to residents of Bukunja in Buikwe district where Prince Job Paulo Kafero was buried, “Kafero was excavated on the same day when he was buried and eaten the next day. All the basezis in the area shared him equally because they compared him to grilled chicken due to his popularity and fame as a musician.”
“His remains are not present, this is Bukunja, it’s impossible for him to exist in that grave,” one of the residents who preferred anonymity stood his ground. For these cannibals, it was automatic that such a great person had to be eaten as soon as possible because his flesh was considered super yummy.
“The only thing in that grave is his guitar, but I only hope the strings were not used during the making of muchomo,” another musezi confided in us. However, BigEye.ug could not confirm these claims but on the very night we were in Bukunja, it happened to be the annual festival of all the basezi in the area.

By 6PM, every musezi had gotten possessed or to say it better the ‘bitambo’ had engulfed them. In every musezi’s home, the cumulo-nimbus clouds that indicate rain hovered yet in other homes, it was still shinning. And when the night fell, the annual festival began. Recitations, incantations of all kind could be heard everywhere. Due to fear, yours honestly went off to a deep sleep and only awoke the next day to the news of what transpired in the night.
During the festival, everyone lists the names and numbers of the bodies they have eaten and the best musezi is awarded the position of chairperson for the year that follows. “This is not a joke, these things are happening and it’s surprising that none of the newspapers or TV stations has ever reported about this,” complained a resident in the area.
Having been shocked with the news of the Late Paul Kafero, BigEye.ug rang to Buddu to confirm the existence of Herman Basudde’s remains whom people over there claim was also eaten.
The famous areas when it comes to cannibalism in Uganda include; Kyaggwe, Bukunja, Buddu, Mubende and some parts of West-Nile.
