Renowned Ugandan comedian Patrick Salvado has raised concerns about the decline of comedy in Uganda, particularly in the central region.

Speaking in a recent interview on ‘NBS After 5’ Show, Salvado attributed the drop in popularity to the growing influence of TikTokers and musicians who are venturing into comedy.

He noted that many of these individuals present themselves as comedians, often using social media platforms like TikTok to gain attention.

According to Salvado, this trend has created confusion among audiences and divided the comedy fan base.

“Some of these people are not genuine comedians but pretend to be funny, which has made it difficult for the audience to differentiate between real comedy and online skits,” he remarked.

The comedian emphasized that while platforms like TikTok and music are powerful tools for entertainment, they should not overshadow professional comedy.

He called on stakeholders in the entertainment industry to support genuine talent and help revive Uganda’s comedy scene, particularly in the central region, where the impact has been most visible.

Patrick Salvado, known for his wit and international performances, urged upcoming comedians to stay authentic and consistent in their craft to regain the trust of their audience.

“Comedy is an art that needs dedication and creativity,” he added.

The decline of comedy has sparked a broader conversation about the need for clearer boundaries between different forms of entertainment and the importance of nurturing local talent to sustain Uganda’s rich comedic heritage.
