“Ani ayinza otula watula mukama,” an excited pastor Bugembe clad in a blue suit sang as he set foot on stage to a very cheerful and expectant crowd. Backed by dancers and back-up vocalists, Pastor Bugembe started his night’s show that didn’t have as much vitality as last year’s show.
The akawala concert held over the weekend watered down the record he has always held for attracting massive crowds to his concerts. The concert though with so many revelers didn’t come within inches of his previous concerts where some revelers have been turned away.
The singer resorted to worship songs such as “Mukama njagala kumanya” which seemed to excite only a small proportion of the crowd. One reveler was heard comparing the concert to a night prayer as it was more of a worship night than an album launch.
Compared to last year’s “Kani” launch where he was all lively, the preaching musical artiste did not impress much this year. The three hour performance saw the self-styled pastor perform his oldest songs. “He beat our expectations as we expected him to sing more of the new songs on the new album,” a reveler was heard saying moments after the concert.
