Forget the Geosteady – Elly Wamala scuffle that left the Viola remix singer in jail with a 40 Million shillings fine for copyright infringement. The Elly Wamala family this week allowed specific Ugandan musicians to re-make some of the legendary singer’s songs to match today’s music demands. The family released a list of 15 musicians who were expressly allowed to re make any of Elly’s songs.
One of the 15 musicians is gospel singer, founder of the Worship Night and Pastor Wilson Bugembe. Bugembe who is well known for his moving gospel music is expected to use his music talent to work on some of Elly’s songs to suit Christian ears.
Elly’s music is mainly secular and it remains to be seen how a gospel artiste will use them to entertain and preach to the church. We are all waiting on the talented musician/ head pastor of Light the World Church to do magic with the songs.
Elly Wamala was a musical genius. He is a man who breathed and lived music. His songs like Viola, Ebinyumu byaffe, Sacramento, Kaama Katono, Nkole Mpakase, Nga Bwekolanga and Boda Boda developed Ugandan music to what it is now and aided him to the champion modern Ugandan music recording industry.
