In a recent session of one of the special Parliamentary Committees, Hon. Fortunate Nantongo raised pertinent questions regarding the government’s provision of support to artistes affiliated with the Uganda National Musicians Federation, which is headquartered at the Serene Suites Hotel in Mutundwe, Kampala.

Specifically, Hon. Nantongo sought clarity on how the government is addressing the needs of artists within the federation, particularly in terms of accommodation and sustenance. Her inquiries were made with the aim of ensuring fairness and equity in the treatment of musicians under the umbrella of the Uganda National Musicians Federation.
Adding to her concerns, the parliamentarian also questioned the government’s apparent lack of a clear plan regarding the establishment of regional music recording studios across the country. The absence of a transparent strategy for such a significant initiative has raised eyebrows and led to further scrutiny from Hon. Nantongo.
Emphasizing the importance of a well-thought-out plan, Hon. Nantongo highlighted that her queries were motivated by a genuine desire for fairness and equity in the long run, advocating for the welfare of artists and the sustainable development of the Ugandan music industry.
Led by the accomplished Ugandan artist Eddy Kenzo, a multi-international award-winning singer, the Uganda National Musicians Federation places a strong emphasis on collaboration and growth. The federation aims to create new opportunities for musicians and various stakeholders within the Ugandan music scene.

Approaching its one-year mark, the musicians’ federation program based in Mutundwe has faced numerous challenges in the execution of its duties, attracting its fair share of criticism. However, despite these obstacles, the progress made by Eddy Kenzo and his colleagues remains promising, signalling potential positive developments for the Ugandan music industry.
