Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has been handed a seven-game for head-butting Hull City midfielder David Meyler.
The sanction is the heaviest managerial ban in Premier League history.
Pardew received a three-game stadium ban followed by a four-match touchline suspension and although it seems like adequate punishment, many pundits feel it could’ve been significantly more severe.
It is the longest period a league manager has been banned from a technical area since 1989 when Nottingham Forest’s Brian Clough was suspended for hitting fans.
Pardew head-butted Meyler in the Magpies’ 4-1 win over the Tigers at the KC Stadium earlier this month.
With the game locked at 3-1 in Newcastle’s favour, Pardew was angered with 24-year-old Meyler who shoved Pardew as he looked to retrieve the ball.
The pair matched up with the former West Ham boss taking it a step to far by tilting his head in the direction of Meyler, visibly pushing his head into the face of the Hull player.
Meyler was cautioned while Pardew was sent to the stands.
