Oscar Pistorius has reportedly been involved in an argument at a nightclub.
The South African athlete – who is standing trial for the killing of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp – got into an altercation in a Johannesburg club, his spokesperson confirmed.
He is thought to have clashed with businessman Jared Mortimer, who claimed that the runner was drunk, according to The Star newspaper.
The argument allegedly took place after Mortimer began to “aggressively interrogate” Pistorius about his murder trial.
Pistorius has denied murdering his girlfriend in 2013, having mistaken her for an intruder. However, the prosecution claim that he deliberately shot her after an argument.
Mortimer has claimed that the row erupted after the athlete insulted his friends and South African President Jacob Zuma’s family.
“I took that personally because I am very good friends with a member of the Zuma family,” Mortimer said.
He is then said to have pushed Pistorius, causing him to fall over a chair. After being helped up by bouncers, he was asked to leave after he “had a confrontation with another man”.
However, spokesperson Anneliese Burgess dismissed the story, saying that Pistorius was approached by Mortimer.
“The individual, according to my client, started to aggressively interrogate him on matters relating to the trial.”
She added that Pistorius “regrets the decision to go to a public space and thereby inviting unwelcome attention”.
At the weekend, the runner tweeted for the first time since Steenkamp’s death.
He posted a Bible verse, a picture collage of his humanitarian work and an extract from Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning.
His murder trial was adjourned last week for closing arguments on August 7. He faces life imprisonment if found guilty of murder.
