A contingent of 70 youth from across the country have been flagged off to work in various positions at the recently opened Goodwill Ceramics Ltd. factory located in Liao Shen Industrial Park at Namunkerera Rural Industrial Center in Kapeeka.
Goodwill Ceramics Ltd which is fully committed to using locally sourced raw materials such as Kaolin clay, feldspar is set have numerous desirable economic implications on the local economy especially through the construction industry which has continued to strongly drive economic growth for Uganda, contributing to about 15 percent of Uganda’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in addition contributing 40 per cent of jobs created by the private sector.
The youth are the first contingent of the 1000 youth who will be sent by OWC to work at the Kapeeka based factory once its fully operational as part of its commitment to include the youth in national economic development and to fully facilitate the expeditious setting up of various industries across the country being set up by many investors that approach it for support.
The youth workers who were flagged off by the Deputy Chief Coordinator of OWC Lt. Gen Charles Agina will undergo a short training stint then offered decent wages, free accommodation and food while they work at the factory with its many opportunities for promotion and growth.
This is a landmark achievement for OWC and part and parcel of H.E President Museveni’s dream when he initiated the Military Operation Other than War (MOOTW) plan to help expedite Vision 2020 and Vision 2040 which aim for fundamental socio-economic transformation of Uganda from a peasantry to a middle-income economy and subsequently a modern, industrialized and prosperous country by the year 2020 and 2040 respectively.
President Museveni will officially commission the factory upon full completion next month after which it will manufacture enough high quality ceramics tiles to fully satisfy the local market and have only 35 percent of the surplus sold to foreign markets.
