The impressive and industrious Uganda Cranes left back, Joseph Ochaya scored a brace yesterday as 10-time league champions Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) edged Bright Stars by 2-1 in Matugga to stretch their lead to eight points on top of the league table.
Ochaya gave the Kasasiro boys a lead when he scored from the spot after Martin Kivumbi’s handball in the forbidden area.
The Kawempe based side who host their home games at Champion stadium in Mwererwe, Matugga responded six minutes before half time as Joshua Kawadwa struck to level matters.
In the second half, Ochaya once again rose to the occasion to net his second that restored the lead for the visitors when he headed inside after Bright Stars’ goalkeeper, Mathias Kigonya fumbled with the ball in the area after a corner.
On the same day, the other title contenders in Vipers SC and Express FC both lost points.
The defending champions were held to a goalless draw by Police FC at Kavumba Recreational stadium in Wakiso while the Red Eagles continued with their poor performance when they traveled to the eastern part of the country as they lost 2-0 to Alex Isabirye’s Bul FC. Augustine Nsumba and Milton Kalisa scored for Bul.
KCCA now have 44 points after 21 games played while Vipers are at 36 points with a game less. Express are fourth on the same log with 35 points.
