Singing and dancing group obsessions must be all smiles after the commercial court ordered they receive a sum of 60 Million Ugandan shillings from Airtel.
Obsessions which has been battling a commercial war with the then Warid telecom for using their songs without seeking their permission have finally won the case with justice David Wangutusi ruling that the company pays them Ugx60 Million.
The then Warid Telecom before it merged with Airtel is said to have violated copyright of the group’s songs Wekume, Jangu, and Feel Me in 2008.
Justice Wangutusi ruled that Warid Telecom Company infringed on the copy rights of Obsessions when it converted and sold songs to cell phone users as a ringtone.
