Uganda’s talented music and dance group of the Jangu and Pollination fame have a good reason to look forward to 2015. Obsessions, a group that is popular among Ugandans for their seductive dances and energetic performances has signed with Sound Prints, a new record label in town.
Although we are yet to verify the identity of its owners, Sound Prints look like a serious record label. Immediately after signing the group, the record label wasted no time in organizing the Obsession-staged drama: Goddess Of the Nile, which is showing at 3PM and 5PM every day at National Theater until 4th January 2015.
We have also learnt that Sound Prints, which signed both Jaki-O and Sharon-O as individual artistes on top signing Obsessions as a group is also responsible for Jaki-O’s radio and club hit Evaluate. This serious Afrobeat jam that is inspired by the popular Nigerian beat was produced in their new studios here in Kampala.
Besides Obsessions, the record label has also signed up Harry Lwanga, a hidden, but talented Afrobeat singer and guitarist as well as Ozie Whan, a Hip-hop artist who has known the game from back in the day when he shared a stage with Klear Kut and GNL in Sabrina’s Pub.
Many record labels have underwhelmed fans, and artists alike, so eyes will be locked on Sound Prints to see what they can deliver in 2015. That being said, if the nascent record label can produce and promote music at par, or better than Evaluate, they, and their signees might just have a bright future in the industry.
