History was rewritten at Kyambogo University on 12th March when the Electoral Commision of Kyambogo University declared Ian Kafuko the new Guild President for 2015/2016.
Never in the history of Kyambogo University, had an NRM candidate won the elections.
Yet it seems this time round the new generation of students felt enough was enough. The past two leaderships of FDC had amounted to nothing and students felt the urge to rebrand their University.
Students turned up in large numbers to vote for Ian Kafuko in a race that pitted him against two other candidates; FDC’s Nsubuga Julius and DP’s Proscovia Nantege Nsereko.
Not even the visit of Dr. Kizza Besigye could change the minds of Kafuko’s supporters. Voting went on past 5pm and students voted late into the night. Vote counting happened in the night and by 8pm, all results pointed in Kafuko’s favour.
Kafuko has been the chairman of Naziri Hall at Kyambogo University. The former old student of Namilyango college is a 3rd year student of Land Economics at the Faculty of Engineering.
