HiPipo, the organizers of the prestigious HiPipo Music Awards have revealed the nominees of the 9th HiPipo Music Awards. The release of the 2020 nominees followed a two months’ nominations submission, and clean-up process. Thousands of music stakeholders mainly from Uganda, East Africa and the rest of Africa took part in this exercise.
The 2020 edition is so strong on Africa with nominees coming from over 20 sub-Saharan and North Africa countries.
Burna Boy and Davido (both from Nigeria), Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), Eddy Kenzo (Uganda), Fally Ipupa and Maître Gims (both from DRC), Mohamed Ramadan and Sherine (both from Egypt) and Soolking (Algeria) are competing for Africa’s Number One Artist.

Africa Song of The Year nominees are Bigtril – Parte After Parte (Uganda), Burna Boy x Zlatan – Killin Dem (Nigeria), Davido, Chris Brown – Blow My Mind (Nigeria), Diamond Platnumz Ft Fally Ipupa – Inama (Tanzania/DRC), Joeboy – Baby (Nigeria), Mohamed Ramadan – Mafia (Egypt), Nasty C – SMA Ft. Rowlene (South Africa), Soolking feat. Ouled El Bahdja – Liberté (Algeria) and WizKid – Joro (Nigeria).
Eddy Kenzo leads the nomination list with 10 nods, closely followed by Sheebah, John Blaq, Spice Diana and Fik Fameica. Bigtril’s sell-out hit Parte after Parte is in contention to win Uganda Song of the Year, East Africa Super Hit and Africa Song of the Year.
While announcing the nominees, Innocent Kawooya – the CEO of HiPipo noted that following the completion of a laborious nomination process, it is now time for music fans from wherever they are to cast their votes for their favourite acts and artists via social media and the awards website until 14th March 2020.
“The music assembly has done its part. The acts and artists befitting of a nomination are those that are shortlisted. In our case, befitting means those that meet the HiPipo Music Awards nomination criteria which is available for everyone via the project website. All nominees are already winners. Even so, we now urge the artists to rally their fans because the ultimate winners will be those with the highest number of votes.” Innocent Kawooya explained.
HiPipo and its partners will present the prestigious 9th HiPipo Music Awards on Saturday 14th March 2020 live from Victoria Hall of Kampala Serena Hotel. The gala night will be preceded by a special red-carpet event.
Just like the previous years, the 2020 edition of HiPipo Music Awards is proudly sponsored by GOD.
