cecafa logoThe Council for East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) is yet to gain a host nation for the 2014 Kagame Club Championship.

Nicholas Musonye, the CECAFA Secretary General, told MTNFootball.com this morning that they are yet to get a host.

“We are working around to see that we get a host nation. We are speaking to some nations like Rwanda and Sudan to host the event,” said Musonye.

He also revealed that they have decided to move the regional event from June to August because of the World Cup that will take place in Brazil.

“We had wanted to have the event around April, but some clubs are still busy with the Champions League and Confederations Cup and therefore August is the best option,” he said.

The Kagame Club Championship is partly sponsored by the Rwanda President, Paul Kagame, and attracts league champions in the CECAFA region and some invited clubs.

Last year’s edition, which was won by Burundi’s Vital’O, was held in Darfur, Sudan. Rwanda’s APR lost in the final.

Since 2002, President Paul Kagame has been the main sponsor of the tournament. The President provides $60,000 which is shared among the top three finishing teams in the annual tournament.

Besides the prize money, the President also gives $15,000 for the organisation of the tournament.
