A first half strike from Gwoto Fred is all Nkumba University needed to edge Uganda Martyrs University in the second semi-final of the Nile Special University Football League (UFL) on Wednesday afternoon.

In a game highly dominated by the hosts, Gwoto netted his side forward just thirteen minutes after kick off, a goal that eventually turned out to be the match winner. Nkumba and UMU meet again next week in the second leg to determine who progresses to the finals.

Earlier on Tuesday, Makerere University despite its recent closure shared the spoils with Kampala University in the first semi-final of the annual University competition. The two sides meet again next week for the return leg of the semi-finals at the Luzira prisons’ ground as they continue to fight for a slot in 2016 finals.

Semi-final first legs Results:

Nkumba University 1-0 Uganda Martyrs University

Kampala University 0-0 Makerere University
