Nile Breweries, Uganda’s leading beer company through its flagship brand ‘Nile Special has donated a cheque worth 3,000,000/= to Mountain Slayers Uganda Club to purchase equipment for the Bakonjo mountain guides.

According to Ms. Amou Majok, Marketing Lead – Uganda, the donation follows Nile Breweries being thrilled after seeing its 50 years old flagship brand, Nile Special at the peak of Mt. Rwenzori.

This was recently on September 5th, when a group of 13 men and 13 ladies under MSU travelled to Kasese, the home district of Mount Rwenzori, located on the border of Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The highest peak of Rwenzori is 5,109 meters and it is here that Anthony Natif took a photo with the Nile Special bottle, taking it to great heights with a stunning caption hailing the Nile Special brand.

“At MSU, we are all about enjoying and showcasing the beauty that Uganda has to offer. And it does have a lot of gems! To that end, we aren’t shy about showing off brands we consider true representations of the Ugandan experience. Nile Special is a quintessential Ugandan brand, loved and enjoyed by millions. It also happens to be the most popular beer in the club. We take pride in it. When Mountain Slayers Uganda organized a Rwenzori expedition, it was a perfect opportunity for us to showcase Nile Special against the backdrop of the highest peak of the most beautiful mountain not only in Uganda but in Africa. We were careful to ensure the bottle was nicely wrapped and tucked deep inside my daypack so it wouldn’t easily break or the contents freeze throughout the 5 days of climbing that it took to get to Margherita. It worked and we were thrilled to share that picture with the world!” Anthony Natif said.

It was then that Nile Special got in touch with Mr. Anthony Natif after seeing the social media conversation his actions stirred.

Mr. Anthony Natif humbly requested Nile Special to give a donation to the Mountain Slayers Uganda Club so that they can buy equipment for the Bakonjo mountain guides.

“Nile Special Uganda’s leading beer brand has been the flagship brand for Nile Breweries for the last 50 years. We were humbled to see the Nile Special bottle at the peak of Mt. Rwenzori.  We got in touch with Mr. Anthony Natif after seeing the social media conversation his actions stirred.  He humbly requested that we give a donation to the Mountain Slayers Uganda Club so that they can buy equipment for the Bakonjo mountain guides,” said Ms. Amou Majok, Marketing Lead – Uganda.

The cheque was handed over to Ms. Amou Majok at Nile Breweries Ltd, Head Office, Portbell Road, Luzira.

Mountain Slayers Uganda is a hiking club that was formed in 2015 to promote hiking and outdoor lifestyle among Ugandans of all demographics.

The club started with six (6) founding members and has now grown to 80 (eighty) active members and still counting. Every six weeks, a hike is organized and once a year a recognized mountain is climbed.

Mr. Paul Lumala, the President Mountain Slayers Uganda (MSU) said, “Mountain climbing is a once in a lifetime experience; you forge lasting bonds amongst each other, being in the wild and having only each other to rely on for safety. With the activities performed we hope to inspire a whole generation to embrace the wild as their first choice of fun weekends and getaways.”
