Nigeria’s Wizkid has waged war against BET Awards shortly after the award ceremony that took place yesterday.
The Show You Ma Money singer took to his Twitter account to wage a war against Black Entertainment, the organisers of the prestigious award. He accused BET for side-lining, segregating and under-looking African acts and awarding them way before the main show starts.
“I love u all for what u do for black entertainment worldwide.I respect the fact u guys do this every year.i know it’s not easy.I understand,” he tweeted. “But I won’t be attending ur preshows and nominee parties if I’m getting the award at 10am before the main show.”
This is what happened to Uganda’s award recipient Eddy Kenzo when he bagged the award. It is believed that he was handed his plaque on the red carpet way before the main event started and his part wasn’t shown on TV.
Purists sight television benefits, but blacks segregating fellow blacks is plainly hogwash. Over the years, African nominees haven’t been shown on TV like fellow contemporaries like Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj et al.
This shameful segregation has always been a point of debate. It, thus, rendered Wizkid to mouth his disappointment and explained why he snubbed the award the first time he won it.
