Nigeria “Washed” and Claimed Afrobeat Genre Away from Uganda – Kasuku

In a recent interview on ‘NTV The Beat’, Journalist Isaac Katende aka Kasuku boldly asserted Uganda’s pivotal role as the birthplace of Afrobeat music.

Kasuku argued that while Uganda is the true originator of the genre, Nigeria has since appropriated it, effectively “washing” and asserting it as their own.

During the discussion on the state of Uganda’s music industry, Kasuku emphasized Uganda’s significant contribution to the development of Afrobeat, labeling the country as its “mother and home.”

The journalist’s comments shed light on a contentious issue within the music world, challenging Nigeria’s dominance in the narrative surrounding Afrobeat’s origins.
