Sources from the Next Media Park indicate that all Next Radio presenters have been fired effective immediately. This comes at the heel of the organisation holding a retreat where it discovered that Next Radio’s “audiences’ tastes and preferences had shifted hence the need to realign the station.”
An internal memo seen by this website dated 3rd March and signed off by their proprietor and Group CEO Kin Kariisa indicated clearly that there would be an extensive programme review, including aligning of all shows.
A source in a position to know more now tells this website that management has been tasked with managing the emotions of the presenters as they identify replacements – only a few of the current presenters are expected to remain.
It should be remembered that Next Radio launched three years ago as the first-ever audio-visual Radio in Uganda. The audio-visual aspect perfectly worked for listeners who wanted the best from both worlds; listen while watching television. Is this part of the things they’re going to streamline better?
From the onset, Next Radio caused a lot of talkability due to its potential and talent, gathering some of the crème de la crème of Ugandan Radio at the time to give an exciting experience to its listeners, but that was lost along the way. Among the top media personalities that could be job-hunting now include. Rudende, Florence Qitui, Karitas Karisimbi, Charles Ongen and Douglas Lwanga. One wonders what went wrong. This is a developing story.
