New luxury hotel opens in Kampala

The local hospitality industry has received another boost with the opening of a new luxury hotel dubbed Latitude 0° Hotel.

Located on top of Makindye hill and nestled in tree canopies, it offers a serene getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city while still affording its residents a view of the city as well as lake Victoria.

The hotel boasts of 47 spacious guest rooms and suites with two restaurants and three bars including a rooftop bar as well as a spa, fitness center and a swimming pool.

It also features a private members’ club where in-house guests as well as local members of the community can socialise and network. This is coupled with private workspaces and meeting rooms for guests.

“Africa is full of fantastic features; not just safari destinations but also there is a lot going on with the cities that a lot of foreign visitors don’t often get to see. We want them to appreciate that there is more to Africa than just Safari destinations.” Nicholas Best, the Hotel’s Commercial Director said.

From wooden disc chandeliers, to antique doors and furniture to art pieces lining the walls, the hotel’s decoration is rich with African overtones.

“We have sourced our interior decor from allover Africa,” Faith Ainembabazi, the PR & Marketing head at Latitude noted.

“We pride ourselves in being an eco-friendly hotel and are always looking to use materials that we already have so as to preserve the environment thus recycling or upcycling our products,” she added.

Latitude Hotel is a pan-African hospitality brand and also present in two other countries, Malawi and Zambia.

As build up for the Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards in December, The ASFAs 2019 will hold their fashionprenuer next Saturday at Kampala Kingdom. FashionPrenuer is a fashion exhibition that sees Key fashion industry stakeholders share their source of inspiration, discuss the challenges they face as Fashionpreneurs and speak on their experiences while debating the solutions to empower the next generation of Fashionpreneurs.

The event will have both exhibitors and attendees showcasing and admiring fashion respectively. You can register and pay online to attend.

ASFAs 2019 are slated for 13th December at Kampala Serena hotel. The awards this years have 14 designated categories and will see the best fashion faces awarded. Entrance is only 100,000ugx and tickets are available on their website.

Airtel rewards local mobile app creators

Airtel Uganda recognized and awarded three mobile Application creators at their annual Independence breakfast held at the Airtel Uganda offices in Bugolobi.

Matibabu – a platform that collects, organizes and visualizes data to better understand and identify malaria trends, Akellobanker – a mobile and cloud based digital finance platform used by farmers and small-scale traders to access instant credit from anywhere using their mobile phones and SafeBoda – a community of entrepreneurs and boda drivers working together to improve professional standards across the urban transportation industry in Africa each received 5 million shillings for upholding standards and transforming the lives of Ugandans with ICT.

According to Mr. V. G. Somasekhar the Airtel Uganda Managing Director, Airtel is committed to the development of Uganda by giving SMEs, large corporations and individuals the necessary tools to innovate, employ and empower themselves and the communities in which they exist.

“This year, we are happy to recognize and award different entities that have excelled in the ICT sector. At Airtel Uganda, we have always spearheaded the notion of development through ICT and this is why we have made significant investment in our network to ensure countrywide 4G, affordable internet connectivity and an all-inclusive Airtel money platform,” he noted.

In his speech, the Guest of Honor and Commissioner Telecoms Mr. Charles Awuk applauded Airtel Uganda for always exhibiting patriotism and leading technological advancement in the country.

“Allow me to congratulate all the award recipients here today. I applaud you for championing the cause of ICT as an enabling factor for development. With ICT, there is almost nothing that can not be accomplished. From simple communication to satellite maps, digital currencies and health solutions, ICT is already playing a key role in the prosperity of countries across the world,” he commented.

He also applauded Airtel for their commitment to the implementation of the broadband policy as well as the 4G connection in national parks, which are a great source of revenue to Uganda.

During the breakfast, Airtel Uganda staff that excelled in different fields across the business functions were also recognized and awarded.

Airtel Uganda rewards customers in commemoration of Customer Service Week

Airtel Uganda surprised customers and staff at their New Park service center with exciting presents in commemoration of the 2019 customer service week on Thursday.

Customer Service Week is an international celebration of the importance of customer service and of the people who serve and support customers on a daily basis.

This year’s theme, ‘The Magic of Service’, recognizes that good service is magical. It can turn an unhappy customer into a satisfied long-term customer. It can turn an occasional customer into a repeat customer. And it can turn any customer into your biggest fan and advocate.

Commenting about this initiative, the Airtel Uganda Customer Services Director, Lynda Nabayinda said, “Customer service week is as much about our customer service team as it is about our customers. We are using this opportunity to appreciate our customers for their continued preference of Airtel products and services and reward our internal customer service teams for the commendable work they do all year round.”

Throughout the Customer Service Week, members of Airtel’s leadership team have been visiting different branches, service shops and call centers surprising the Customer service representatives and customers with various prizes. During the visits, the Airtel leaders also offered words of guidance and motivation to the staff.
