With students stuck home due to the closure of schools as a result of the second wave of the Coronavirus, a new online learning platform dubbed Tusoma Online has been launched to enable students to keep up with their studies.
The web-based platform is connecting learners to teachers for revision online. The platform provides virtual sessions for learners at all levels from primary one to senior six.
Mr. Ivan Genza, Head of Operations at Tusoma Online, says the platform comes as a supplement to other interventions by government to provide alternative ways of learning amidst the pandemic.
“Academic stagnation can have a severe impact on children’s intellectual development, especially when newly acquired knowledge is not immediately built upon or consolidated by more advanced academic pursuits,” he noted. “With our new online platform, learners can be assured of constantly refreshing their knowledge through online revision sessions with teachers, and progressively acquiring advanced knowledge by reading ahead with the guidance of teachers in a virtual classroom.”
“Tusoma Online will help supplement the government’s efforts of teaching through radio, television and reading materials. We are also ready to work with primary and secondary schools to provide an online platform for their students, although this would require some regulatory intervention by the Ministry.” Genza added.
To access the platform, a student will be required to sign up via www.tusomaonline.com and then pay a fee of Ugx 2,900/- per class session which will last an hour.
