HipHop legend Navio has opened up about his personal struggles with bullying, anger, and mental resilience during a one-on-one conversation on the Mind Your Head UG podcast hosted by Canary Mugume and Sheila Tusiime.
Speaking to Canary and Sheila, Navio revealed that his childhood was marked by bullying due to his quiet nature and “nerdy” appearance.
“I was a skinny kid who had braces, big glasses on and was a quiet nerd which made me a quick target by bullies at school,” he shared.
The rapper also spoke about dealing with intense anger from a young age, describing it as overwhelming and difficult to control.
“Since my childhood, I’ve always dealt with rage—completely blind, unblinded anger,” he said, adding that he has spent over 20 years trying to stay sane and relevant in the music industry.
Navio credited sports, particularly boxing, as a key outlet that has helped him manage his emotions and channel his energy positively. He also described music as a form of therapy that has played a crucial role in his journey.
Reflecting on personal growth, he emphasized the importance of overcoming fear, noting that many bullies are not as tough as they seem but are simply driven by cruelty.
“One of the ways to becoming steady enough and to feel safe is overcoming fear,” he explained.
Beyond his career and personal battles, the hip-hop rapper highlighted the role of family in keeping him grounded.
“My go-to person is definitely my wife, she knows me in so many ways,” he disclosed, adding that his family remains his anchor even when everything else feels chaotic.
