Ugandan journalist Nancy Kacungira has been named “International African Woman of the Year”. This comes after she emerged victor in the Women4Africa Awards UK 2016 that took place on Saturday, 21st May in London. She beat Adeola Fayehun (Nigeria), Mimi Kalinda (DRC) and Yemi Adenuga (Nigeria) to take home the crown.
Nancy showed her appreciation on social media posting: “I just received yesterday the great news that I won this award! Thank you to whoever nominated me, I’m blessed to be recognized for something I am so passionate about; African narratives. Sometimes our problems seem so huge and insurmountable that it’s frustrating to care so much, but I’ve met enough great young African minds to know that there is hope, so much hope!”
Women4africa Awards are geared towards celebrating and empowering Africa and its women by supporting and celebrating their role in their communities. The nominees are identified and nominated by the public.
