On Friday evening, Ugandan beauty Namala Mable was crowned Miss Tourism 2015 at a glamorous event held at Hotel Africana Kampala.
With a theme of promoting culture and tourism, this year’s contest focused on taking the 16 contestants through rigorous training to learn and appreciate their culture.
Contestants demonstrated this as they showcased different cultural aspects of Buganda with their choice of traditional attire. They also showed off their ‘bitone’ which included singing, dancing, poetry among others.
Miss Talent was Sheila Mazzi Mariam. Namatovu Camilla walked away with the Miss Popularity crown and was also 2nd Runner up and Nakazzi Gloria emerged 1st Runner up. It was at this point that Namara Mable was crowned the Buganda queen.
Guests were also treated to great music from Messach Ssemakula who turned the house upside down.
Maria Emily Lubega Mutagamba, the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities praised the organizers of Miss Tourism Buganda and challenged the organisers of the nationals to put up an even better show come 28th August at Kampala Serena Hotel when the ultimate Miss Tourism will be crowned. Hon. Maria said, “Thank you Miss Tourism Buganda organizers, you have done a great job. You have set a standard for the nationals. They surely should be better.”
She added, “Buganda Kingdom thank you for supporting the pageant. You should continue supporting the pageant because it will help put Uganda on the map and also encourage domestic tourism.”
Meanwhile, the tourism Buganda ambassadors join other regional winners as they wait to compete for the ultimate Miss Tourism crown.
