For many years, many have known Nakivubo stadium for flooding every time it rains heavily but soon it will be known for its endless scandals.

Just recently, MPs blocked the re-development of the stadium by city tycoon Ham, and now Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has also come out threatening to close the stadium.

The development follows Nakivubo management’s failure to clear taxes of VAT and PAYE amounting to over Shs500million. Nakivubo and URA had earlier entered into a memorandum of understanding in which they agreed that Nakivubo will be paying about Shs21.5million per month starting May 2013-May 2015.

URA now claims that the stadium management has failed to honor the agreement and therefore the tax collecting body will have no choice but rather to close the stadium.

“We gave them ample time to clear the debt. Today, we have no option but to evoke clause four of the MOU and the law to enforce payment. The clause gives us power to take any option depending on the situation,” Abdul Waiswa, manager URA debt collection unit told New Vision.

URA however are yet to close the stadium as they await a response from the stadium management following their official letter addressed to Nakivubo management regarding the matter.
