Ugandan-born US-based singer, Naira Ali, has stirred controversy by defending extravagant spending for prom parties and referencing to her daughter saying she would also spend millions on her prom.
Amidst criticism from Ugandans, Naira Ali asserted that she’s willing to go to great lengths to ensure her daughter’s happiness.
The discourse started when a young girl arrived at school in a helicopter, reportedly funded by her father.
Many viewed this display as excessive, prompting widespread debate on parental extravagance, particularly during high school events like prom.
In response, Naira Ali defended such acts, arguing that they transcend wealth and are instead about prioritizing a child’s joy.
She adamantly stated that she’d spare no expense to create memorable experiences for her daughter.
For Naira Ali, spending 4-5 million shillings on a helicopter ride pales in comparison to the priceless happiness it brings to her child.
“I’m not rich but I will happily spend the 4-5 million for a 30minutes helicopter drop off on my daughter’s prom if it gives her an experience and a good time.
I don’t see anything big about that.”
The phenomenon of lavish prom celebrations is not unique to Uganda; globally, parents are increasingly investing significant sums to ensure their children’s prom experiences are nothing short of extravagant.
