Naava has always been Naava. No one else. Her style has always been unique, fresh and unadulterated, crisp even. Melodic and bewitching. Is there any female voice better than Naava’s in this dusty metropolis? Stand tall and be counted. From her bewitching Ninga Omuloge to her fine Nteredde, Naava has always stuck out of the masses. Her talent has a voice of its own.
Then, she releases Nkwetaga. Now, if you listen to it randomly, without checking the artiste’s name, you won’t know that it was her. Because? Well, because this is not her style. The style we all know. Naava’s style. But then again, Nkwetaga is a fine tune. It has a touch of dancehall fused with sprinkles of Lingala and the instrumentation runs on a high tempo, which is fine, really. Sometimes what a musician needs to do is to change a style. It doesn’t hurt a neck. But above all, it shows how the artiste is flexible and can slip into any genre without causing mayhem. And Naava doesn’t cause mayhem here. You will love it. Listen to that beat akin to Irene Ntale’s Nkubukinze. That melodic voice crooning ‘Nkwetaga’ without trying to sound corny, or vague, but delicately coming off as good as Naava has been. We want more of this, Naava. We want you to send us on the dance floor and dub ourselves lame. Good song, this one. A pat on the shoulder for an amazing talent that Naava is!
