Musicians with the best Museveni campaign songs are set to be awarded. This follows the launch of the Museveni Election Music Awards (MEMA).
The awards were officially announced on Monday during a press briefing held at the NRM Secretariat along Kyadondo Road in Nakasero.
According to singer Buchaman, real name Mark Bugembe, who is also the brains behind the awards, the MEMAs are aimed at recognizing and appreciating musicians that have composed songs praising and mobilizing support for the incumbent and NRM Presidential candidate Yoweri Museveni.
“Several artistes, through their music, have shown all the good things about our country and the achievements the NRM has made over the years under the leadership of President Museveni. Such artistes need to be appreciated and this is why we came up with the Museveni Election Music Awards,” Buchaman noted.
Speaking during the launch, Balaam Barugahara revealed that over 1000 songs have already been submitted for recognition and the ultimate winners will be selected by a panel of judges.
“We have a special panel of judges who are going to choose best 200 songs and these will be the singers who will attend the award ceremony and also compete for the grand prize.” Said Balaam Barugahara.
To be considered for the awards, interested musicians will have to submit their songs via the awards website, www.mema.ug.
Sponsored by Kapeka Industrial Park, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba Foundation and the NRM Secretariat, the awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, December 31st at Kati Kati in Lugogo. The winner will walk away with Ugx 5 million.
