Musician Bobi Wine has shared his thoughts on blocking of social media in Uganda. Social Media was reportedly disabled due to a threat on public order and safety following a directive from the government regulatory body of the communications sector, Uganda Communications Commission.

Here’s what Bobi Wine said:

“The Electoral Commission of Uganda has a Facebook page and so does the Communication Commission(UCC). This is because they know that social media is the quickest and most effective means of information dissemination.

The Electoral commission even promised to update us about what’s going on every two hours. However, even with
the knowledge that today is the most important day in the lives of most Ugandans, All social media(Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp) has been blocked in Uganda. What happened to the transparency?”
