Not every day you will land on a good music video that will make you slap your thighs in appreciation, silently giving props to the souls who managed to assemble it. Most of the videos in this dusty country are somewhat lackluster, below par and technically lacking and seemingly uninspired. And if you chance on a good video, then you doff your hat and your hand hovers on the repeat button. I chanced on Tupambane by Face Off, a South Africa based Ugandan artiste. Now, this is one heck of a video that has the qualities to escalate to higher heights like Channel O and MTV Base, or beyond. The song seems to mirror ‘hustling’ and making ends meet, and the video, itself, depicts all that.
It opens with a somewhat market scene where hustling is evident. Face Off wanders about, singing, high-fiving folks. The camera angles are flawless in this. And the picture quality is perfect. The storyline follows it in tow. Face Off, with this video, might cement himself as the hottest thing that will ever happen to Uganda’s musical scene in 2015. He has a vibrant voice, typical with dancehall artistes, and he coughs out lyrics effortlessly with practiced ease, with such enthusiasm that upcoming artistes are always armed with. It seemed to have been shot in South Africa. The squeaky clean streets and all lends a picturesque backdrop which makes the video more beautiful and good on the eye. And because the song is good itself, you are offered double happiness. Face Off, without a shadow of doubt, has a bright future. If he sticks his oars to what he is doing. Nice video, this one!
