Music Video Review: Lowoza Kunze by Rema Namakula

Rema

Is it a new dawn for the Uganda music industry? Have we, at last, seen the proverbial light? First, it was Bebe Cool’s Love You Everyday that threw everyone in a stewing pot of admiration. It was an alright video, smart and good to the eye. Clarence Peters outworked himself on the visual piece of art. Before we could blink, music aficionados, Rema Namakula’s Lowoza Kunze is upon us.

I watched the video, closely, keenly like it held the key to my success. And I must say, it is as awesome as Rema herself. There is some magic touch on the video. Something that has been lacking in most Ugandan videos. The storyboard seems alright. But what I love about the video is the gleaming lighting, the creativity poured into it like ketchup on a burger. The director, on this one, must have had a clear head to shoot awesome angles. It is some heck of a video you would watch over and over again without tiring, getting weary, or batting an eyelid. Yes, Rema was a gorgeous as the sunlight: flaunting her dimpled cheeks, flashing flirtatious smiles and rolling her glassy eyes, seductively, something she has mastered to do over time. It works for her, I suppose.

That petrol station scene in the video with vehicles pulling over takes much credit here. Well, one could argue that it is a tad nonsensical and all, but before you shove your soy sauce let’s come to a realization that the music industry (more especially, the videos) is somewhat limping. Creativity flew out of the window when we needed it most. But Lowoza Kunze reeks of a whiff of creativity. The lighting in it works for me. It is not too much to blur your sight. Still, it is not too dull to send you to sleep. It is alright. Just the way you would want it. There are no ratchet girls flaunting their bodies on your screen. It is just Rema, her dimples, pretty eyes, and a few lads who wanted a piece of her heart. And she sings in English here, which is, if you ask me, a bit odd, but she comes off good.

Let it simmer, folks. Let it sink in, Lowoza Kunze, for lack of a better description, might stay on our screens much longer than most of your relationships. Good video, this one. Good video!
