Last year, Bebe Cool dropped Love You Everyday and everyone loved it every day. It was a good piece of work. Did it set standards? Sure, it did. It was a wakeup call for artistes to slap themselves hard in the face. But then again, his recent works seemed like baby class rhymes and the video is meh. Having said that, his arch nemesis, Bobi Wine, seems to, at last, have smoked some blunts of creativity. It is evident with his new video, Kiggwa Leero. First, it is a darned good song. It took a detour down the memory lane and reminded us of Abakyala Balumya: the faded song that is still fresh in my head like a scene from my favorite series.
Here, he merged talents with his wingman, Nubian Li. The video is shot is a somewhat lone place, in the countryside. Bobi Wine is tucked away in garments that would render the gods of fashion to cringe in anguish. He has backup singers. Are they shooting a movie, or something? Perhaps. In the video, there is that scene which to me takes a chunk of credit, because, come on, we are used of vague videos teeming of naked girls and borrowed cars and rented apartments with a shabby storyline. Nubian Li, later, pulls over on a battered road. He looks dapper. He is smart as he is good as he croons, singing to a soon-to-be-married girl. Then people start trickling in, one-by-one. Dancing around them. Showering them with a horde of presents. The pack of people is led by Bobi Wine himself who slips in a character you are not fond of seeing; he is happy. He smiles uncontrollably. He dances even. Yes, Bobi Wine pulls a few strokes, dancing around the marrieds. Maybe the concept is copied from those Indian movies with a whole village dancing and singing on the streets. Whatever it is, this video is good. It leaps of originality which lacks in most of our videos. It is indigenous which, again, sells it out because, aren’t we all weary and tired of copycats? We are. Here, Bobi Wine must have, indeed, smoked some blunts of creativity. Good video, this one.
