Music Review: Nkorekyi by Jose Chameleone Ft Melody

When Chameleone coined and baptized himself a Doctor, honest to heavens, I was up in arms in protest against such nonsensical approach to braggadocio. But this rickety talented music extraordinaire has proved me wrong. He has always proved me wrong; not that I doubt his music prowess (who does?), but because of the silly let-me-slap-my-face-with-a-moniker inane adventure that is renowned with our musicians. He is, indeed, a music doctor. That, I confess. He offers meds and antidotes to musical ailments. And, I want to think, he has a depthless heart and magical hands because what he touches never remains the same. He touched Nkorekyi. What should I do? Let me doff my invisible hat for the brother.

It is an earworm, quite frankly. This song reminds me of him and Papa Cidy. In fact, I thought it was Papa Cidy on the track; the sleek rhythm is akin to the collaborations he had with him. And it turns out, he is not the little Papa Cidy, it is a one largely unknown lad called Melody. Whoever peppered the name Melody on this little lad’s face had a working IQ. He is melodic in his crooning. Something he does flawlessly, delicately and effortlessly. He barely gets out of his seat. He remains slouched on his comfy seat, but churns out the song with practiced ease. And, ladies, friends and gentlemen, I introduce to you Melody. What a melodic name and a voice he has!

Jose Chameleone, as a music geezer, falls in later in the song. And his presence cannot go unnoticed. He clears his throat and he was up to the races. Nkorekyi is as sweet as they come. It is a lamentation of a love-struck lovebird who finds himself amidst the proverbial hard rock and hard place, and he doesn’t know what to do. The tale is somewhat hogwash, but who cares? The instrumentation is rich; just enough to nod a head. Ah, and Chameleone is a breath of fresh air on this one. You know how it is tiring to listen to one weeping voice? The Doctor, in his unseen overalls, pumps the much-needed antidote to the song. Nkorekyi is worth your time, and ears and MBs.
