essie - code

By Nimusiima

Maybe Essie is one of the most underrated female voices around. Maybe! I start with maybe because, well, maybe I could be right. This little girl is rich with a voice that can change the chemistry of our Ugandan music. Her melodic, young and seemingly soothing voice has always stood out in most of her projects she has done with the likes of Benezeri, CODE, Tucker HD, et al. When she clears her voice, there seems to be something therein that goes unnoticed that most folks should take a keen ear and listen. She is as talented as they come. And sexy…her voice, especially.

Here, she comes with You; a track she did with renowned rapper, CODE. It couldn’t pass without a nod of appreciation, of accepting that, indeed, Uganda’s talent hasn’t shredded to grey. It is still hidden in the silhouettes, that all one needs is to turn up the knob of his stereo and it will be fully illuminated. ‘You’ is a good song. To me, Essie’s vocals own the song from point A to the proverbial fading climax. She shrieks out her love to whoever she had hots for, and she shrieks, not in an irritating way, but a tender, more laid-back, a tad sexy and melodic way with her bewitching vocals having a grip hold of your inner clamor. CODE, like any other rapper, offers his two cents of lyrical bars. ‘You’ will tease you and drag you to a bottomless pit of musical bliss. You have to like ‘You’ because ‘You’ is a good song and if you don’t like ‘You’, you will have, of course, missed a lot.
