Music promoters, led by Abtex, have imposed a ban on renowned artist Eddy Kenzo, prohibiting him from performing at their events.

The decision stems from a heated dispute over a Ugx 33 billion government fund allocated to support the creative industry.

Promoters accuse Kenzo, a Presidential Adviser on Creatives, of undermining their role and excluding them from the beneficiaries of the fund.

According to Abtex, Kenzo has been engaging directly with President Yoweri Museveni, allegedly downplaying the importance of promoters’ contributions to the music industry. “Kenzo has showed that he doesn’t need us. He’s the one who’s hindering us from the President,” Abtex stated.

“We as promoters have banned him from singing on stage.”

The promoters’ frustration extends beyond Kenzo to the broader issue of being overlooked by the government and also request a share on the Ugx 33bn

The ban also affects artists affiliated with Kenzo under the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), which he leads.
