MultiChoice Africa has launched an open month as it brings more entertainment and value with the HISTORY channel, now available to all DStv’s Compact subscribers across the continent.

As it made its debut, HISTORY®, DStv channel 186, premiered the highly-anticipated television reboot ROOTS, a four-part, eight-hour series developed by HISTORY.

Roots is based on the best-selling novel by Alex Haley, it recounts the journey of one family’s will to survive, endure, and ultimately carry on their legacy despite enormous hardship and inhumanity. Spanning multiple generations, the lineage begins with young Kunta Kinte, who is captured in his homeland of The Gambia and sold into slavery. Throughout the series, the family continues to face adversity that reveals powerful truths about the universal resilience of the human spirit.

MultiChoice Uganda PR and Communications Manager Tina Wamala stated, “ROOTS on the HISTORY® channel can now be watched on the Compact bouquet under the open month but only until July 13th 2016. We know that very many people are passionate about the story of ‘Kunta Kinte’, a story that resonates with Africa in terms of culture but above all our history as a continent, a reason as to why we share this experience and entertainment with our subscribers.”

She continued, “The HISTORY® channel in additional has a lot of entertainment and value to offer during this four week open-window. The channel will broadcast new and exclusive shows, along with top-rated return titles that Compact subscribers will not have had access to previously. The existence of channels as this shows our keen interest in history and especially human history and yet these don’t only stop at entertainment but also help to educate the masses especially the younger generation which is one of our major objectives,” said Tina.
