MTN LOGOMTN Uganda has unveiled the 2016 sponsorship of the Kampala Club Chairman’s Cup worth Ugx 25 million, making it the 14th year that the telecom giant has sponsored the tournament. The tournament which kicked off on 7th March 2016 will climax with a prize presentation event at the Club on 12th March 2016.

The sponsorship package also includes provision of playing kits that include t-shirts and caps, as well as trophies. The participating teams are competing in 11 sporting disciplines including squash, lawn tennis, darts, chess, table tennis, omweso, scrabble, pool, badminton, walking and swimming as they vie for the coveted Chairman’s Cup.

MTN Uganda Chief Marketing Officer Mapula Bodibe said “MTN recognises the role that sports plays in our customers’ lives. It is therefore in our interest to support such platforms that give our customers an opportunity to play competitively and to explore their potential.”

According to Mapula, the Chairman’s Cup also provides an opportunity for engagement with our high value and business customers in their own environment, so as to further expose them to MTN’s products and services that are relevant for their homes, workplaces and businesses.

“Besides sponsoring the Chairman’s Cup, MTN Uganda has also in the past provided Internet connectivity, and 4 years ago MTN furnished the Club’s Business Lounge and provided laptops.” Mapula said.

MTN has also unveiled exciting offers to Club members to run concurrently with the tournament. For example, members will get free 10GB + a free fixed line, when they buy a 4G Indoor CPE, which is available at the MTN spot at the club from 9th to 12th March. In addition, club members and participants who upgrade to a 4G SIM card will get 1GB free, also available from 9th – 12th March as a special offer for the duration of the tournament.

Kampala Club is the oldest social club in Uganda, with over 600 members. Its membership is comprised of members of the business community, academicians, politicians as well as civil society.

In addition to the long running sponsorship of Chairman’s Cup, MTN recently partnered with Huawei to host a one-day Chinese Executive Golf tournament which featured teams of enterprise customers and staff from both companies as well as golfers from various corporate and Chinese entities in Uganda such as Bank of Uganda, Housing Finance, UMEME, CNOOC and so many others.
