MTN LOGOOnce again, this year 2014 MTN Uganda is giving another successful 33 students an opportunity to work with the organization as part of their Course / Degree completion requirement with varying disciplines ranging from Engineering, Finance, Marketing, Sales & Distribution, Legal, Human Resources among others.

This programme has been going on for over five years seeing many of the former interns join MTN-Uganda as full time employees upon completing their studies. Since 2009 when the program was inaugurated, more than 236 students have so far gone through the MTN internship program.

MTN Uganda General Manager Human Resources Michael Sekadde said in 2009, the company received 67 students and maintained the same number in 2010 and 2011 respectively but lowered the number to 35 for 2012 and 2013.

Explaining the gist of the program Sekadde said: “The MTN Annual Internship programme is an opportunity offered by MTN-Uganda to potential future Talent, referred to as ‘interns’, to work with the organization for a limited period of time as part of their Course / Degree completion requirement. The programme runs for a period of three months during which the students/interns are given an opportunity to enhance their knowledge and work experience in the different divisions within MTN-Uganda and their field of study as well as an opportunity for MTN-Uganda to also spot potential talent who can be groomed for the future.”

This comes only a week after MTN Uganda was awarded with Superbrands recognition. This is the latest recognition MTN Uganda is receiving for 2013. The telecom is not only the employer of choice among graduates but was also in April last year voted as the Best Mobile Telecom provider of the year(2012) at the 2013 Uganda Responsible Investment (URI) awards ceremony held at the Imperial Royal Hotel in Kampala.

According to Public Opinion, the organizer of the URI awards, MTN was voted for by the people of Uganda in appreciation and recognition of its contribution towards the promotion of international best practices and standards in their day to day operations such as; respect for internationally proclaimed rights of workers, elimination of discrimination in respect of occupation and employment, work against all forms of corruption including extortion and bribery, respect of public procurement guidelines, delivery of quality products and services, involvement in productive Corporate Social investment and environmental protection and payment of Taxes.
