On Saturday, the StarTimes Uganda Premier League official broadcaster, Sanyuka TV, officially unveiled their new partners, MTN, on a one-year-subsequently-renewable contract, in an event held at the StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo.
The event started off with a press conference addressed by all stakeholders; Sanyuka TV General Manager, Joseph Kigozi, MTN Chief Marketing Officer Somdev Sen, FUFA Spokesman Ahmed Hussein and UPL CEO Bernard Bainamaani all addressed the press.
“We are proud to share that MTN are back in Ugandan football after having done so well when they handled the Uganda Cranes years ago,” Sanyuka’s Kigozi said. “This partnership will add a lot of value to the clubs, with even bigger sponsorships expected as corporate companies will now further be assured of visibility.”
MTN’s Somdev pointed out that the company are excited about the partnership, stating, “We have been waiting for a major opportunity to support sport like this one to jump onto, so we are happy. We are looking forward to seeing Ugandans excited about matchdays, more involved in conversations SUPL and much more.”
This one is also a partnership that feeds into something MTN already had going; discounted bundles to watch StarTimes Uganda Premier League games off the StarTimesON App via their *165*81# prompt.
The launch was concluded by an exhibition game between Sanyuka TV and MTN, a game that saw Next Media Services CEO, Kin Kariisa, and MTN Chief Marketing Officer, Somdev Sen, captained their respective sides to a 0-0 draw.
