The long-awaited MTN Pulse rap battles will premiere on NBS TV tonight at exactly 7.30pm.

MTN Uganda launched the Pulse Rap Battles back in September. The three months rap competition also acts as a lead up to the MTN Hip Hop awards in February 2020.

The telecom giant has sponsored the MTN Hip Hop Awards for the last 3 years. The MTN Pulse Rap Battles, however, offer the rap community a sustained opportunity to express their talent and are a fitting lead up to the awards.

Tonight, the journey to crowing the king of rap begins. Tune in.

The winner will be an MTN Pulse ambassador for a year and his/her music will be uploaded on to Tidal, a top music streaming app that is available to MTN customers and is owned by renowned American rapper, Jay-Z. This potentially means, that the winner can, with time start earning income from the revenue earned by artistes whose work features on the app.

With rallies banned and candidates set to use digital and mainstream media to campaign, NBS Television has moved quickly to yet again position itself for the unprecedented task ahead. It has today launched the “Political Command Center” ahead of the 2021 General Elections.

“The Electoral Commission’s position on scientific elections is well-known to all of us by now and we have quickly adapted to its needs at NBS Television; all candidates, regardless of their political affiliations or any other divides, shall be catered to,” said Joseph Kigozi, the Next Media Services Chief Strategy Officer.

With the launch of the Political Command Center, NBS Television has put together an extensive plan to exhaustively cover the whole nation, and is set to deliver daily spot-checks across the country. The station has also committed to availing all its resources, both human and technology, to ensure its viewers are kept updated.

Also speaking at the launch, Joyce Bagala, the Next Media Services Head of News and Current Affairs, said, “Our viewers, you already know how much we value you and it won’t be any less with this. We are going to, just like we did with our COVID-19 coverage, adjust our programming to ensure you’re all well updated.”

“On Monday, June 27th, you can expect a new property that will come to you daily at midday with all the latest on the elections from across the country, along with our 4:30pm and 8:30pm special bulletins,” Bagala added.

Critically-acclaimed political reporter, Joseph Sabiti, will also mark his return to the general elections frontline following a short sabbatical, along with a cast of personnel in a mix of both youth and experience on this project.

NBS Television has also confirmed that it, through its fully-fledged research
department, will conduct opinion polls in the central region along with selected hotspots across the country.

MultiChoice Uganda, has through local content channel – Pearl Magic, launched Learning Time, an education segment on the channel dedicated to providing educating support to students in Uganda amid lockdown.

The segment will cover all the major subjects for Ugandan students and will run on weekdays, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am to allow students time to drill down further into their education and use the time being spent at home, while Ugandan recovers from the COVID-19 for revision purposes.

“The launch of Learning Time on Pearl Magic gives us a chance to further our efforts in supporting Ugandans through COVID-19,” said Colin Asiimwe, the Head of Marketing for MultiChoice Uganda. “It comes at a time when we know that our Ugandan students need quick access to education, and slotting Learning Time during the morning hours on weekdays is a good time, while we know our candidates will be trying to be productive and study.”

To pull this off, MultiChoice Uganda partnered with Next Production House an arm of Next Media which in turn partnered with Taibah High School for the Primary Seven, Senior Four and Senior Six content.

The channel, which is open to all DStv customers, and to GOtv Max up Value customers, is inadvertently open to all DStv and GOtv subscribers following an automatic upgrade announcement dubbed DStv Tweyanziza and GOtv Mwebale Nnyo for DStv and GOtv subscribers respectively from 20th of April as an extension of MultiChoice Uganda’s gratitude to its customers for their support despite being in lockdown.

“The introduction of Learning Time is an exciting and different approach to the content mix that is currently available on the channel” said Margaret Mathore, Channel Head of Pearl Magic.

“Whilst our mandate is to entertain with shows that resonate with our customers, we equally believe that adding a show that is specifically targeted to the education of young Ugandans will create the much needed balance that is required for any channel especially during this current pandemic.” She added.

The addition to the channel will remain open until further notice, with the aim to stay on as long as need be to support Uganda’s candidates.
