MTN Group Fincommerce, a subsidiary of MTN Fintech Group in partnership with MTN MoMo Uganda and collaborating with Mastercard, has officially launched its new e-commerce platform, Market by MoMo, to offer Ugandan traders and buyers a seamless online selling and shopping experience.
Market by MoMo is a one-stop digital marketplace that allows Ugandans to buy and sell a wide range of genuine products from electronics to groceries, fashion, beauty, fitness products, home & office, mobile phones and tablets, computing, appliances and more, while benefiting from reliable services, flexible payment options, and prompt deliveries.
Speaking at the official launch held at Mestil Hotel in Kampala, Brian Mutungi, ecommerce Country Lead of MTN Group Fincommerce, emphasized the transformative potential of Market by MoMo.
“We are thrilled to officially launch Market by MoMo, a platform that connects Ugandan traders with a wide customer base and brings convenience to consumers. Market by MoMo combines a variety of product categories, flexible payment options, and user-friendly shopping features, making it a game-changer for Uganda’s e-commerce sector. This launch also aligns with our vision of leading digital solutions for Uganda’s progress,” said Mutungi, noting that MTN Group’s partnership with Mastercard has also been instrumental in bringing Market by MoMo to life.
Market by MoMo provides a robust, user-friendly shopping experience with seamless access via the MoMo app and website. Customers from any telecom provider can sign up and conveniently start shopping. The platform offers flexible payment options including MTN MoMo and major credit/debit cards. Market by MoMo is zero-rated for MTN customers, allowing access without data charges. Delivery is swift and reliable, with orders reaching customers in Kampala and Greater Kampala within two days or less.
Amnah Ajmal, Executive Vice President, Market Development, EEMEA at Mastercard, said: “Consumers across the board are now presented with increased choices and it is important for companies to ensure their experiences are safe, secure and seamless. Through this collaboration with MTN Group Fintech, we are proud to enable local businesses and consumers in Uganda to participate fully in better shopping experiences. Market by MoMo is a significant step forward in creating economic opportunities and digital inclusion, aligning with Mastercard’s vision for a more inclusive, digital Africa.”
Customers benefit from hot deals on the landing page, a wide product variety, and high-quality items across over 100 categories, from electronics to groceries. Frequent promotions such as flash sales, themed campaigns and category-specific discounts further enhance the shopping experience, making high-quality products affordable. Market by MoMo will also enable a previously untapped opportunity for Ugandans in the diaspora, to shop for relatives back home using payment options including MoMo or (debit/credit) card.
Market by MoMo also supports Ugandan merchants, offering no account management fees and a favorable commission structure. Merchants benefit from free pick up, free packaging, content support, 24-hour order settlements, and exposure to MTN’s extensive customer base through integrated marketing support. A dedicated merchant hub enables merchants to manage stores and track performance, with a dedicated 24/7 support team to address their needs.
The platform’s official launch kicks off with a series of unbeatable offers and discounts in which customers will enjoy discounts of up to 60% on select product categories.
“The e-commerce sector is a rapidly growing segment of the global economy,” noted Mutungi. “By launching Market by MoMo in Uganda, we are not only diversifying our product offerings but also empowering Ugandans to join the digital transformation journey, contributing to our nation’s economic growth. Together, we are setting the foundation for a more connected, more digital, and more inclusive Uganda.”
