It was a dream come true for Mr. Uganda aka Ivan Byekwaso as he won gold at the INBA Natural Universe Bodybuilding Championship in Texas, USA.
The 37-year old Ugandan body builder beat American and Australian opponents who took silver and bronze to the gold medal at the 67th edition of the global event held at the Zach Topfer theatre in South Lamar, Austin Texas.
The silver and bronze medalist at the World Championships in Slovakia and INBA Natural Body Building Olympiad in San Diego last year respectively had been pitted against 36 contestants at the annual championship in the short men (175cm) category.
In a post to his social media, Byekwaso said; “Lord God thanks for answering my hard work, ladies and gentlemen this victory is for all Ugandans around the world.”
Apparently, Byekwaso is the first Ugandan to win the global event and will be written in the same history books as famous USA actor, Arnold Schwarzenegger who won the title for three consecutive years (From 1968-70).
Byekwaso also won a cash prize of $4000 for his achievement and will now turn his focus on winning the forthcoming Natural Olympia multi-sport expo in November 2015.
