Over the years, there has been a debate that has never been settled about whether, God forbid, if Radio and Weasel parted ways, would they flourish individually? A great deal of ‘no’s and ‘yes’s have been mouthed. It is a debate, really. But Mowzey Radio, in their single Good Night, tends to drive that debate to an end. They can’t flourish. They need each other. They are like siamese twins. They get along together, easily, unlike when they part ways and embark on solo paths.
In Good Night, Radio struggles to impress. It is evident therein. The track is a bit reggae-ish; somewhere you would expect Radio to croon to the best of his talents, but sadly, he didn’t. Maybe the boys should stay away from English songs as well, but that’s a debate for another day. The talented crooner, he of the goatee and skinny frame, goes on and on, wailing in the same tone. You hardly make of what he is singing, because, first: it is irritating. Secondly, it is, well, downright irritating. His voice is melodic and sweet, yes, but he got it wrong in Good Night. He kept on whining endlessly and seemed completely out of touch with his usual wits and creative juices. Weasel, towards the end, falls in unannounced (as usual) and barks (as usual, too) some gibberish you wouldn’t quite hear very well. Glad, he vanishes off the track quickly. You want to thank God, because Weasel, too, was somewhat irritable in this. It is unusual. I am a great fan of the boys, but they got it wrong with Good Night. Perhaps it is the pressure to release a song after every minute that is taking a toll on them and squeezing the mojo out of them. Perhaps! It goes for a debate, too. Lame song.
