Movit Products Limited (MPL) over the weekend took part in the Irene Gleeson Charity walk themed ‘Walking to promote learning and development’, with a contribution of over 80 Million shillings. This year’s contribution was geared towards the construction of the Irene Gleeson Community Library and Youth Training Resource Centre.

Movit has devoted time and resources into uplifting communities and improving the lives of the people in the Northern Uganda. It has for 4 years now contributed towards elevating the education conditions for millions of children in this region and is still committed to transforming the future for the children and ensure that the dream of
Maama Irene lives on.

The company’s contribution this year was bigger than the previous year where Movit contributed 40 million Uganda shillings to the same cause. This year Movit contributed 15 tons of Cement amongst other items to support the charity walk.

“Movit believes in supporting the young generation and building their capacities to shape a better future for Uganda. Therefore, nurturing the children in the northern part of the country is a big responsibility and obligation that the company will continuously support”, Bruce Mpamizo, Director Business Growth Movit Products Limited noted.

This year’s Charity walk started at the Library construction site led by the Chief walker Alison Chatres the Austrian High commissioner for East Africa among other dignitaries from Uganda. The 5km procession of over 300,000 people marched through city finalizing the walk at Booma grounds, Kitgum.

Meanwhile, the Irene Gleeson Foundation together with Movit had on Friday visited Hospitals and the Kitgum Prison giving away several items that included Basins and Movit products.

The company as well participated in Sport activities to support different community groups such as Bicycle racing, marathon, Football for the women and racing competitions for the disabled.

The chief walker Alison Chartres High Commissioner of Australia praised Irene Gleeson as a great representative of the Australia. She recognized her as a woman of courage and compassion who devoted 20 years of her life supporting child health and helping children with no hope of the future.

The ED Irene Gleeson-John Paul Kiffasi thanked partners like Movit who have joined the journey of building a bright future for the Children in Kitgum. “The Library will equip the Children with Knowledge to improve on the performance, last year Kitgum had 36 first grades so this Library is a hope for better grades.” He noted.

The Chief guest, the speaker of Parliament Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, thanked the sponsors for keeping the legacy of Irene GLEESON alive and urged the people of Kitgum to maintain the facilities put in place in good condition. “Irene supported the children of Acholi who were victims of HIV, poor health and that lacked education, giving them hope and capacity to take charge of their future.” She said.
