Movit continues to invest in Northern Uganda through the Irene Gleeson Charity Walk

Movit Products Limited (MPL) has this year continued to contribute to the improvement of the standards of the people living in northern Uganda, primarily focusing on education and health.

For the 5th year running, MPL continues to partner with Irene Gleeson Foundation to contribute to the lives of 1000s of pupils and families across the region through ensuring that the good work started by “Maama” Irene continues to live on.

Irene Gleeson was an Australian Philanthropist recognized for her service to international relations, particularly through her sustained humanitarian work amongst children affected by war and HIV/AIDS in Northern Uganda, Irene was named an Officer of the Order of Australia in June 2009.

This year’s contribution is geared towards the completion of the construction of the Irene Gleeson Memorial public library and youth training center. The project that is still under construction started last year. Movit Products Ltd has this year given a total package valued at 30 Million Uganda Shillings as a contribution towards the Irene Gleeson Charity Walk.

This Saturday, July 20th, the Charity walk will host over 10,000 people in Kitgum in Northern Uganda under the theme “Walking to promote learning and development” to honor the life of Maama Irene Gleeson and support the construction of the community library.

This facility, the first of its kind in Acholi sub region will improve access to quality learning materials that will advance learning for suitable development through literature, art and culture of the local community, help provide youth skilling opportunities for job creation as well as facilitating research.

The guest of Honor Hon. Okello Oryem Minister of foreign affairs acknowledged that Irene Gleeson was an extraordinary woman and no single Ugandan has done the work that she did in Northern Uganda as he thanked Movit for the contribution. “I thank you for your contribution towards this noble cause, last year the company made a very fundamental
contribution worth 80 Million Uganda shillings which helped us start the foundation of the library.” He said.

According to the Chief Commercial Officer Movit Products Limited, the company will continue to support the foundation’s initiatives and other community activities. “We understand that a brighter future starts with an education and giving children everywhere the tools and support they need to find success in school and in life. It is our responsibility as a company to care about the wellbeing of the communities that we operate in.” the Chief Commercial Officer MPL said.
