Mountain Dew Uganda launched its search for Uganda’s best video gamer on Wednesday at Kati Kati Restaurant in Kampala.
The search is dubbed “Mountain Dew Gamers Tour 2013″ and this is where Mountain Dew treated journalists to a fun-thrilling event. The search kicked off in Kampala with a media Gamers battle where Journalists from various media houses tussled it out for Shs. 500,000, the top prize of the day while others played for fun.
According to Mountain Dew’s Head of Marketing, Innocent Tibayeita, the tour is designed as an opportunity for the sponsors to bring to life their thematic campaign “experience extreme”. He also revealed that “Under this campaign, the brand desires to engage and encourage the youth to express themselves. They are bold, different, daring and adventurous.”
Different from last year’s search, when the Gamers challenge only focused on Kampala and its sorroundings Tibeyeita confessed that “with just about 1000 fans taking part, this time we are to travel countrywide and we expect over 300,000 youth and gamers”.
This year’s challenge is also to be taken to schools, malls, supermarkets, offices, bars and gaming tailored events throughout the country. During the tour, the previous challenges winners i.e. scouts will be looking for a specific number of players per category to participate in the grand finale. There will be 32 players in the sports category and 64 each in the racing and action categories.
