Miss Uganda 2023/2024, Hannah Karema, recently shared her remarkable journey from a village upbringing to winning the prestigious Miss World Beauty with a Purpose crown and emerging as the first runner-up for the Miss World Africa title.
In an interview on Urban TV, Karema recounted how her childhood admiration for the Miss Uganda campaign, coupled with her father’s encouragement, fueled her aspirations despite humble beginnings.
Karema nostalgically recalled watching TV with her father in their village home and admiring the Miss Uganda campaign, never envisioning herself participating due to her rural upbringing. “I used to watch TV together with my dad and adore that Miss Uganda campaign. Never did I imagine that I would ever be one because I grew up in the village and schooled from the village. But my dad promised to have me school in Kampala and maybe have a chance one day to join,” she shared during the interview.
Her father’s advocacy against early childhood marriages also played a significant role in shaping Karema’s ambitions. “My dad was also an advocate against early childhood marriages. This was the time I was living in Kinyonyi – Nakaseke district,” she added.
Despite the challenges she faced growing up in a rural setting, Karema’s determination and her father’s support propelled her towards her dreams.
Her recent triumph at the 2024 Miss World competition, where she clinched the Beauty with a Purpose crown and earned recognition as the first runner-up for Miss World Africa, exemplify her perseverance and talent.
Karema’s success not only highlights her individual achievement but also showcases the rich diversity of Ugandan talent and beauty on the global stage.
Additionally, she has secured a prominent role alongside numerous Indian actresses in the trailer of the upcoming Bollywood drama, “Heeramand: The Diamond,” further expanding her reach and influence beyond national borders.
Miss Uganda Hannah Karema’s journey serves as an inspiration to many aspiring young individuals, demonstrating that with determination, perseverance, and support, one can overcome any obstacles to achieve their dreams, no matter their background or upbringing.
