Miss Uganda 2023/2024, Hannah Karema, has achieved a remarkable feat by securing a spot in the top 10 finalists of the “Beauty with a Purpose” segment at the 71st Miss World event held in Mumbai, India.
Her journey to India commenced last month to partake in the competition, and since then, she has been a beacon of hope, uplifting the Ugandan flag on an international platform.
Expressing her exhilaration, Hannah Karema stated, “Thrilled to share that I’ve clinched a spot in the top ten of Miss World Beauty with a Purpose! Grateful for this opportunity to make a difference on a global stage. Thank you all for your unwavering support.“
This achievement marks a significant moment for Uganda in the Miss World competitions. The last time Uganda clinched a top spot was in 2018 when Miss Uganda Quiin Abenakyo was crowned Miss World Africa. Abenakyo’s performance in the 2018 contest, where she excelled in the head-to-head challenge and secured a place in the Top 5 overall, marked a historic moment as the first Ugandan to achieve such recognition in the prestigious pageant.
Miss World, established in 1951 by Eric Morley in the United Kingdom, stands as the oldest existing international beauty pageant. Following Eric Morley’s passing in 2000, his widow, Julia Morley, co-chaired the pageant. Alongside Miss Universe, Miss International, and Miss Earth, Miss World is recognized as one of the Big Four beauty pageants.
Managed by the Miss World Organization, the annual Miss World Finals have grown into one of the largest global competitions. Since its inception, the Miss World organization has raised over £1 billion for children’s charities, supporting disabled and underprivileged children worldwide. With franchises in more than 100 countries, Miss World serves as a platform to empower young women and motivate them to create or support meaningful charitable causes globally.
The “Beauty with a Purpose” initiative, integral to Miss World, inspires young women to champion important charity causes worldwide, reflecting the pageant’s commitment to social responsibility.
Congratulations to Hannah Karema for her remarkable achievement, and may her success continue to inspire and uplift young women across Uganda and beyond.
